Dr. Moutasem Zakkar

Dr. Zakkar completed his PhD in the School of Public Health and Health Systems at the University of Waterloo. He obtained a Master’s degree in health information science from the University of Western Ontario, Canada, an MBA from New York Institute of Technology, and a Bachelor’s degree in Dentistry from Damascus University, Syria. His research interests include patient experience, population health outcomes, indigenous people’s health, social determinants of health, health policy, healthcare politics, and health informatics.

 

Earlier in his career path, Moutasem practiced dentistry in rural and disadvantaged communities, which has shaped his views regarding people’s health needs, healthcare access, and healthcare quality. For data analysis, Moutasem uses quantitative methods, including statistical analysis and machine learning methods, and qualitative methods.
